International Nurses Day

International Nurses Day (IND) is an international day celebrated every year around the world on 12 May. 12 May is the last day of Nurses week.

International Nurses Day is celebrated to recognize the contributions that nurses make to society. It celebrates the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale.

History of Nurses Week

Nurses Week starts on May 6 and continues until May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale. To understand how Nurses Week has started, it’s important to understand Florence Nightingale’s contribution, widely referred to as “The Lady with the Lamp.”

Year of The Nurses

In recognition of the contributions of Nurses, and the risks associated with nursing shortages, the World Health Organisation has named 2020 as the Year of the Nurse and the Midwife.
