As per reports, WhatsApp is working on launching its UPI based payment services in India by the end of the may month.

“We are continuing to work with the government so that we can provide access to payments on WhatsApp to all of our users. Payments on WhatsApp will help accelerate digital payments and this is particularly important during Covid-19 as it is a safer way to transact for our 400 million users in India,” WhatsApp says.

Back in February 2018 WhatsApp began beta testing its UPI-based payment service in India.

Whatsapp payment service has not been able to launch officially in India due to some issues. But As per reports, the Whatsapp payment method will be official for Indian users by the end of May month.

According to a report by Money Control, WhatsApp Pay will launch with ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, and HDFC Bank. SBI is also one partner of Whatsapp pay, but it will not part of the WhatsApp pay launching.

However, Whatsapp payment service supports numerous Indian banks that have allowed UPI.

WhatsApp has 400 million users in India which is its largest market worldwide. WhatsApp Pay will also give competition to an existing payment service provider like Google Pay, Paypal, and Paytm.
